Our Goal

The goal is to create an empowering professional development space for all education leaders of color and their allies across New York State throughout the school year. Participants will build connections and relationships with peers who turn into coaches and position NY superintendents as mentors to other educators. If NY EDLOC is successful, the ratio of people of color in the ranks of public educational leadership in NY will mirror the ratio of students of color in our public schools. We will ensure that talented leaders of color stay in our schools and build their careers in public education, and we will recruit the next generation of leaders to become educators and join our work

What is NYSEDLOC?

The New York Education Leaders of Color is the brainchild of  Schenectady Superintendent Anibal Soler, Jr., Ithaca Superintendent Dr. Luvelle Brown, Port Chester Public Schools, Superintendent Aurelia Henriquez, and Shenendehowa Superintendent Dr. Oliver Robinson. The group approached NYSCOSS, who are excited to team up with IEI so this program can involve superintendents, educators, and educational leaders statewide.

In Partnership

Planning for the Future

When K–12 leaders, mission-driven organizations, and innovative thought leaders convene to tackle public education’s most pressing issues, their community approach to problem-solving results in practical, sustainable solutions.

The last two years have been transformative. Still, the Institute for Education Innovation is looking ahead to a bright future with the rest of the IEI Family, including our valued Members and Partners.
