Dr. Morris Leis is the Superintendent of the Coffee County School District, completing his 12th year in Douglas, Georgia. He began his educational career as a social studies teacher in the Ben Hill County Schools in 1994 and was appointed superintendent of Wayne County Schools in 2009. As superintendent of the Coffee County School District, Dr. Leis has led the district through many initiatives.
He received his Bachelor of Science in Social Science Education from Georgia Southern University and Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University. He earned his Educational Specialist and Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida.
Throughout his career, Dr. Leis has completed numerous professional development programs, some of those being Georgia’s Leadership Institute for School Improvement, Learning Focused Schools Trainer Training, Georgia School Superintendent Association (GSSA) Budget and Finance, Capital Outlay and Human Resources Institutes. He has also completed the GSSA Superintendent Executive Leadership Program in 2020 and most recently the AASA Urban Superintendent Academy. He also serves as one of three delegates from Georgia on the AASA Governing Board.
As an active community member, Dr. Leis serves on several local boards including the Coffee County Board of Health, Douglas Coffee County Chamber of Commerce, and Coffee County Boys and Girls Club. He is also an active member of Douglas Rotary Club, an Executive Board Member for the Georgia Charter System Foundation and Chairman of the Okefenokee RESA Board of Control.
