A year-round membership for early stage EdTech companies

The Founders Table is a year-round membership and community for early stage EdTech companies. Every month you are in a room with a different sitting superintendent, in a working session on what comes next for your company, and in office hours when you want a second read on something. Monthly or annual, with a discount for paying up front.

Built for the stage you are actually in

Pre-revenue, first pilot, first renewal, first real contract. Whatever stage you are in we have a seat at the table.

Just Getting Started

You have an idea in market, maybe a pilot, and very few district relationships. What you need most is a map and people to walk it with.

Early Traction

A handful of district contracts, growing revenue, and the beginnings of a repeatable sale. You may need to understand how to shorten your sales cycle.

Scaling

Real revenue and a team, working on how to expand across districts and states without your acquisition cost climbing with you.

The room that moves your company forward

The Founders Table exists to move your company forward faster than you could alone. Every month you are in a room with sitting superintendents and founders at your stage, working through the questions that decide whether a company makes it: how a district reaches a decision, who else has to say yes, whether your pricing survives a board meeting.

Those answers change from one year to the next, so this is not something you learn once. It is a standing seat with the superintendents who make those calls and the founders working the same problems, and you leave every session further along than you came.

 A Powerful Network

Between them, Doug Roberts and Rita Ferrandino have invested in or advised hundreds of K-12 startups. Their network runs through sitting and retired superintendents, founders who have already exited, EdTech CEOs, investors and district consultants. If a question comes up that neither of them can answer, they will know someone who can.

Seven sessions on the four things that decide how fast an early EdTech company grows: raising capital, building a product that holds up at district scale, understanding how districts buy, and running a go-to-market motion that pays for itself.

You'll hear from EdTech investors, product leaders who have shipped into K-12, sitting superintendents taking open questions on procurement, and B2B marketing leaders on outbound and conference return. The afternoon is a live pitch competition for companies under $1.5M, with feedback from investors and district leaders in real time.

Included with membership in The Founders Table. Companies outside the membership can register directly.

What a Month Looks Like

All sessions will take place from 12:00-1:00 PM ET unless otherwise communicated. Every session is recorded and stays within the cohort.

Peer Roundtable

Each session opens on a specific topic and moves into questions, discussion, or breakout groups. Topics rotate through leadership, product, market, and finance.

Ask a District Leader

A different sitting superintendent joins every month and takes your questions directly. Over a year that is twelve or more districts, varied by size and state, answering the things you cannot ask on a sales call. This hour is for asking and learning rather than pitching.

Office Hours

An optional hour where you bring whatever is on your mind, whether that is prepping for an investor meeting, a hire you are unsure about, or something about a district that does not add up yet.

Institute for Education Innovation

IEI connects education leaders and innovative companies to accelerate what works in K-12 schools. Based in the United States, IEI has deep relationships with superintendents and district leaders across the country, and a track record of creating high-value environments for companies building for districts.

The Founders Table puts that to work as a membership community for early stage companies. Every month you are in the room with a different district leader and industry expert or CEO who has already been where you are now, asking the questions you cannot get answered anywhere else and getting real feedback while you are still figuring it all out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can’t find the answer for your question?
Email Whitney Ballantine

Do I have to attend everything?
No. Every session is recorded, so come to what is useful and watch the rest on your own time. Nothing is mandatory and nothing gets flagged.
Is this a pitch opportunity?
Not in the sales sense. Each month you will get to ask questions, garner feedback or practice a pitch with other founders, district leaders or industry experts. You may receive feedback but this community is not for selling.

If you're looking to pitch to district leaders, check out our startup pitch competition, SupeTank.
Is this a subscription, and how long is the commitment?
It is a subscription, and you choose the term. Monthly, six months, or a full year, with a discount for paying up front. Month to month means you can stop whenever it stops being useful, and the annual option is the one most founders land on once they have seen a couple of months.
What if I am not an early stage company?
Get in touch anyway. Most of what happens here is built for companies in their first few years, and we will tell you honestly if it is not a fit.

Are you ready for a seat at the table?

If you want a lower-commitment way into the IEI community, built for founders who want to start with conversation, tell us about your company and we will send you the details.
